Windows x64 is the primary tested OpenMindAI desktop path. Install the official package, choose your AI storage root, then let first-run setup prepare the local runtime and model workflow.

Confirm the device requirements.

OpenMindAI does not require high-end desktop hardware for the default local model. The items below separate practical baseline compatibility from hardware that only improves speed or enables larger models.

Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit

x64 CPU compatible with the published package; no specific CPU brand or performance tier is required

8 GB RAM is the practical baseline for the default 4B local model; larger models and longer contexts need more

About 6 GB free storage for initial setup; an SSD improves loading speed but is not required

A dedicated GPU is optional; supported CPU inference remains available when acceleration is unavailable

START SETUP

Run the installer or bootstrap.

For the normal release path, open the signed/official Windows installer. If you intentionally use the Git bootstrap asset from the release, run its published setup command from the downloaded location.

No separate setup command is published for this release. Follow the package instructions shown with the selected release.

FIRST RUN

Choose storage, detect hardware and prepare the model.

The first-run flow is intentionally local-first and separates the desktop application from the AI data root.

If Windows SmartScreen appears, confirm the file came from the official OpenMindAI release and verify the published checksum when one is available.

GPU/runtime behavior depends on the hardware and supported backend; CPU execution is the compatibility path when acceleration is unavailable.
